Preach The Word! That was the calling Charles received at the age of 18 and it is the calling that he seeks to fulfill before the LORD to this day!

Brought up in a Christian home he attended the local Brethren Assembly in Coatbridge with his parents and two sisters. By the age of 11, circumstances changed and the family no longer attended the Church. By the age of 16 he attended Hamilton Baptist Church and then Coatbridge Baptist Church. Following his commitment to the LORD JESUS in May 1980, Charles began preaching The Gospel.

Charles, his wife Jill and their 2 children attend Ladywell Baptist Church in Livingston, West Lothian.

Over the last six years “Truth To Live By Ministries” has been established. This work has come into being with 4 clear objectives in mind.

  1. To glorify the LORD JESUS CHRIST
  2. To take a stand against the trend in Evangelical circles which casts doubt on the inspiration and inerrancy of the Scriptures. We believe that all Scripture is inspired, inerrant and all-sufficient and we will not be moved on that core belief
  3. To preach a subject that is often over-looked these days: The truths of end-times Biblical Prophecy. The technical name: eschatology
  4. To preach the Gospel!

Over the last 6 years alone, Charles has had the privilege of preaching, teaching and expounding the Truths of Scripture in various Churches and assemblies all over the UK. From Alresford in Hampshire to Oban and Arbroath in the North and from Gretna in the West to Berwick upon Tweed in the East!

This is not a calling that Charles takes lightly, the desire of his heart some 37 years on is still to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ.

Charles is willing to accept invitations to speak at Church services, conferences, evangelistic meetings as well as Ladies groups and Mens fellowships all over the UK and Ireland. Charles would be willing to preach over weekends, consecutive Sundays, Mid week studies etc if required. He would be happy to deal with a specific topic or indeed to work through a specific book in the Bible.

As a family the Sommervilles would greatly appreciate your prayer support both as Charles preaches the Word and indeed as he travels from place to place. As a family the Sommervilles are very much aware of the importance of prayer: without it the task would be very difficult. Indeed Charles is greatly indebted to his Mum and Sister, who are a tremendous support in every way.

In fulfilling his calling before the LORD, Charles would count it a joy and a privilege to be of assistance to you

Over recent months we have seen the LORD work in mighty ways. It’s so exciting to be involved in the service of our gracious LORD JESUS! The fruit is thrilling to see and experience but the glory is CHRIST’S alone.
